Firmly set in the academic landscape through a strong partnership with the Department of Japanese Studies at the University of Strasbourg, but also thanks to contacts with many other universities in Europe and Japan, the CEEJA has the ability to bring together experts in Japan from all over Europe. Besides, the main working language here is Japanese.
Aimed primarily at teachers, researchers and students, the activities related to research consist of five main areas : study sessions, publications, seminars, immersion courses and residents’ accomodation.
Thus, study sessions bring together for a couple of days a dozen researchers about a subject closely related to their own speciality in order to lead, in principle, to publications. During conferences and seminars, the CEEJA welcomes large groups (including the general public) over several days and assists in organizing these events. As for the immersion courses, they are animated during three or four days by people whose mother tongue is Japanese and are intended for small groups of students divided by level. The goal, in addition to a traditional university course, is to be totally immersed in contemporary Japanese language. Finally, residents’ accomodation concerns young researchers : indeed during several months, the Centre becomes for them a friendly workplace where access to specialized databases and literature is made easier.
In order to organize and manage all these activites, the CEEJA has available a permanent team, a resource centre composed of books on Japan and its language, and friendly premises : large and fully equiped conference rooms, individual or group workrooms, living quarters, a library...
You are a teacher or researcher? Feel free to take part in our research sessions, whether as a participant or as a coordinator. Come and speak at conferences or seminars or tell us which projects you would like to see organized at the CEEJA. Ask for our support for your research, and let your students enjoy the activities and tools that we put at their disposal.
Students, sign up for seminars, conferences or immersion courses. Also apply for researcher-resident’s accomodation. And do not hesitate to come and see the books in our resource centre.
