With the exception of the marks on ingots, the Linear A inscriptions on metal artefacts do not come from palatial archives, but from tombs and sacred contexts. They consist of four chronological groups (dated MM III to LMIB). The occurrence of Linear A on bronze dates as far back as the beginning of LMI, although they are older on gold and silver. The nouns 'bronze' and ''silver' are quoted on a few metal objects.

Concerning the references to metal on clay tablets, two lexical groups may be defined. The first one seems to be based on a traditional processing (low tin bronze and arsenical copper), and the second one is clearly linked to new techniques (high tin bronze). Anyway, copper seems to have kept a metrological use even for the value of gold. Linear inscriptions show that the scribes used the words for the various metals with great precision.
