The dynamics of the training are structured by the work of the Teaching Committee, comprising regular members and guest artists. A constant interplay between theory and practice, conception and implementation, tests the teaching and acquired knowledge against the reality of the stage. The basic training given over the three years of the course concerns stagecraft and acting, voice, body and gesture, visual arts, learning a musical instrument, singing, the history of theatre and representation and living languages. Extending this regular training, special sessions directed by masters of puppetry, directors and visual artists enable participants to experience individual artistic worlds. As of the first year, these intensive sessions bear fruit in individual and group productions. The presentation and relation of work to the public is conceived as an integral part of the course throughout the three years. The training also covers : – stage technology ( lighting, sound and image) – administration and management |

Regular training in the use of body, voice and movement helps students acquire autonomy in these areas. The basics of stagecraft and puppetry are approached through: – classical techniques of manipulation and construction – visual arts : drawing, colour, modelling, moulding and sculpture – stagecraft and use of the body – general culture : history of the theatre and puppetry, history of art and aesthetics, study of the repertoire, approaches to and analysis of drama. At the end of the first year, based on the results obtained so far, the Teaching Committee decides which students will be admitted into the second year. |

The focus is wholly on experimentation and creative output. Students will form their own creative teams in order to come up with a group production, with the support of ESNAM staff. Late in the year they also develop a personal approach to stagecraft by preparing an original, individual graduation piece for performance. The production is presented to the Diploma Jury and earns the student 4 course credits. |
