Sculpture remains the expression of reality, of eternity, of the indescribable. It endeavours to translate a thirst for forceful emotions, by fixing a moment of life, in the sincerity of a. look. It results from this fight "of a potential form against an imitated form" as Andre" MALRAOX describes it. There is no male or female sculptor but a creator constantly searching for the perfect architecture never leaving aside engraving or chiseling. Sculpture is a serious and precise art which demands a deep enthusiasm, animated by the devil of creation. Maria de FAYKOD relentlessly pursues her search within a rigorous logic, which is characterised by the strength of the line and the power of the volumes. For her, only one reality exists, that of the truth which reveals itself. She follows up this singular dialogue with the matter, her imaginary conversations with the marble and the stone, relentlessly trying to translate the perception of her sensitivity. She belongs to that current which emerged from Antiquity, from Michelangelo to Rodin, where a feeling for measure dominates but also for humility, which never ignores the tragic sense. She refused this approach, which leads to abstract inventions, to the projection of imaginary sketches into Space. She wants to be the heiress to a neo-classicism enriched with all its diversities. Her hand gives life to a human Being, a History, a Truth. Then, her progression is methodical, laborious, unrelenting. She works on her block gradually, through to the deepest layers. She set aside sensualism which is so tempting, in favor of a severe and discreet harmony. Like her masters, she asserts her preference for marble, which welcomes life quivering so perfectly, and, out of the purity of the material, she knows how to express a poetry. The "body is the prison of the soul. It must translate tension and challenge. At that moment, she sets herself an objective, she stresses a line, she emphasizes an essential detail - a profile, a hand, a wrinkle - which explains and makes its importance be understood in a body deceivingly at rest. Faithful to a tradition, she knows how to be herself. In this permanent quest of the creator, which is often incoherent and anarchic, we treasure the ability to keep references, clear representations, sensitive perceptions which help us to follow the labyrinth of our life.
