It is set in a rural area with panoramic views over the Pentland Firth to the Orkney Isles and ferry connections at Scrabster, Gills and John O’Groats. The cottage has been tastefully renovated, incorporating the original byre into the house. A sheltered garden overlooks the sea and the Croft extends to 4-5acres. There is ample standing room for cars. Scarfskerry has its own small harbour which nestles in the lee of Dunnet Head, the most northerly point on the British mainland. The county town of Wick is 20 miles away, Thurso l2 miles, Castletown 6 miles and Mey 2 miles (for village, pub and shop). Click here to see the location on a map of Scotland. Sunday shopping is available at the supermarkets in Wick and Thurso Dunnet beach (two miles away) sparkling sand for over a mile and good surfing. Dunnet Head is nearby with its lighthouse and bird watching opportunities. There is abundant salmon, sea and trout fishing and fish are plentiful for the good fisherman. Rock fishing and brown trout fishing on Ratter Burn is free. Loch and deep sea fishing can be arranged. The Caithness cliffs are well known for their wealth of sea birds and there are fine colonies of guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and puffins to be found at several places, including Dunnet Head and Duncansby Head. There are big gull colonies as well, and shag and rock doves breed in the caves at the foot of the cliff, together with black guillemots. There are also cormorant colonies, and where the Atlantic meets the North Sea in the Pentland Firth excellent feeding grounds are provided for gannets, auks and other sea birds. Golden Eagles and Buzzards can be seen at STRATHY and Gold panning at the Stath of Kildonan, placier deposits can still be found.
